Wanaka![]() Wanaka, sheltered behind the Southern Alps in the South Island of New Zealand, is the ideal holiday destination. There is something for everyone, whatever your age, ability or sense of adventure. From fishing to flightseeing, tramping to tennis, horsetrekking to heli skiing, goldpanning to golfing. Close to the Mount Aspiring National Park, the area is a natural paradise. ![]() Wanaka is about one hours drive from Queenstown. However, while the pace of life here is far more sedate and less huried than in Queenstown, Wanaka features many of the same high adrenalin activities and adventures. So if you want to do your paragliding, jetboating or rap jumping in a more quiet and secluded atmosphere, Wanaka may just be the place. ![]() Wanaka is also very near several excellent ski areas (such as Treble Cone and Cardrona) and some very good places to go tramping. Many of the most popular activities in Wanaka involve the beautiful lake, pictured here. Wanaka is located in Central Otago, where large flocks of moas once lived. Easter 2006 is a great time to visit Wanaka and see the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow.
